Dr. Mia Williams

Dr. Mia Williams is the Executive Director of the Department of African American Male Achievement for Seattle Public Schools (SPS). Dr. Williams was appointed to this role by the SPS Superintendent back in 2019. She supports the brilliance and excellence of young Black males and her commitment to educational justice has been consistently recognized. Dr. Williams has served SPS for nearly three decades. Her efforts led to transformational change in SPS, ushered her into her Executive Director role and has inspired our decision to nominate her as our Seattle Seahawks Inspire Change Changemaker.

Dr. William's achievements span decades resulting from her meaningful work. Some of those include:

  • 2016 Washington State Middle Level Principal of the Year
  • Ed. of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, principal credentials from the University of
  • Washington, and completing her doctorate (2018).
  • 2019 Recipient - National Education Association's Mary Hatwood Futrell Human and Civil Rights Award.
  • Panelist at the White House's Summit on the My Brother's Keeper Initiative.
  • Founding principal of Kingmakers of Seattle.

Her tireless commitment to education is recognized by the Seahawks and has resulted in our on-going relationship. The Seahawks work closely with Dr. Williams and the programs/organizations she curated like Kingmakers of Seattle and WHOLE Mentoring. The Seahawks Players Equality & Justice for All Action Fund donated $41K to Kingmakers in 2019. Quandre Diggs took students from Kingmakers holiday shopping in 2021, donating $5K to help students buy gifts for their families. Additionally, WHOLE Mentoring was created out of Dr. Williams' office. The Seahawks have partnered with them over the last years to provide unique experiences to students such as the HBCU Tour, corporate visits to partner offices like Microsoft, and device donations to 50+ SPS students.
