Zach Mettenberger: 'I'm definitely playing' vs. Giants

Tennessee Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt said rookie Zach Mettenberger has been progressing from his shoulder injury and was optimistic the quarterback would play Sunday against the New York Giants.

Mettenberger, however, took it a step further.

"I'm definitely playing," the rookie told reporters Wednesday.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday, per a source who has spoken to Mettenberger, that the quarterback suffered a grade one AC joint sprain in his right (throwing) shoulder in Sunday's loss to the Houston Texans on a crushing hit from J.J. Watt.

The quarterback was officially limited in practice Wednesday.

Mettenberger said the Titans are "my team," and he wants prove in the final four games that he can be their quarterback of the future.

Mettenberger has said the right things to the media throughout his audition and shown flashes in his five starts. He has a strong arm, can make plays down the field and doesn't cower in the face of pressure. He's also displayed streaks of rookie struggles, throwing an interception in each of his appearances this season.

Sunday should continue Mettenberger's campaign to persuade the Titans' brass not to draft a quarterback high in 2015.
