With the Broncos and Julius Thomas likely headed for a split, Denver is zeroing in on Plan B at the tight end position.
Virgil Green is currently mulling over a multi-year offer from the team while fielding interest from multiple other clubs, according to The Denver Post. No less than 13 teams have reached out to Green's agent, per the newspaper.
"The Broncos have talked to me," Green said Saturday. "They didn't tell me what my role would be but they made it clear how valuable I was to them. I love playing in Denver, and I love the fans. But I can't make the decision just based on that. I appreciate the offer. But I don't want to react too quickly until I know how other teams see me."
Broncos general manager John Elway tabbed Green as a priority during last month's NFL Scouting Combine. That makes sense with the little-used Dominique Jones as the only tight end under contract in Denver.
Green won't be mistaken for Thomas as a playmaker, but the fifth-year performer has emerged as one of the league's top blockers at his position.
Whether or not Green is retained, losing Thomas would put the Broncos on the hot seat to find a bona fide pass-catching tight end to help Peyton Manning move the ball in 2015.
