Regardless of what Johnathan Josephbelieves, the Houston Texans will wait until Monday to decide if Ed Reed will play.Â
Coach Gary Kubiak reiterated Saturday that Reed will be a game-time decision prior to Monday night's tussle with the San Diego Chargers, according to the Texans' official Twitter feed. But if Reed plays, he won't start. Kubiak announced that Shiloh Keo will get the nod at free safety to start the game.
Joseph told the Houston Chronicle on Friday that Reed "obviously" was not going to play. Kubiak's rebuttal underscores why we don't put much stock in players' comments on a teammate's availability.
On Friday, Reed called his status "day to day" as he deals with scar tissue issues in his surgically repaired hip. The team listed Reed as questionable Saturday.Â
The Texans are keeping the door open for their star safety to finally put a helmet on, but by no means will they go out of their way to push him onto the field until he is completely ready to play.
