Redskins call RG3 to help lock down Antoine Winfield

The Washington Redskins are making a big push to land cornerback Antoine Winfield.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that Winfield was wined and dined in Washington, D.C. at a table that included team owner Daniel Snyder, quarterback Robert Griffin III, coach Mike Shanahan and members of the defensive staff.

The Redskins also showed Winfield a highlight tape of the veteran defensive back making various impact plays at the Redskins' expense.

Winfield was released by the Minnesota Vikings earlier this month after declining a pay cut, though a return remains possible. Then again, the Redskins are in full-court press mode, and they desperately need a player of Winfield's caliber to fortify their ailing secondary.

Speaking of ailing, one hold-up in a potential deal with the Redskins was the health of Winfield's agent, Ashanti Webb, who has been under the weather. Webb is back up to speed, meaning Winfield might choose a home soon.

If the Redskins can find the salary-cap room, that home very well might be FedEx Field. Stay tuned.
