Percy Harvin won't make Seahawks debut vs. Bucs

The Seahawks are coming off their worst offensive performance of the season, and now are without Sidney Rice the rest of the way, so the time would appear ideal for Percy Harvin to make his Seattle debut.

It won't work out that way. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll confirmed Harvin will not play Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"Percy won't play this week," Harvin said during his weekly spot on SiriusXM NFL Radio. "He's getting close but not close enough."

Fox Sports 1 reported that Harvin was on track to return against the St. Louis Rams on Monday night until his surgically repaired hip "flared up" in practice last Thursday. The team slowed Harvin down after that.

"We want to make sure we don't go too far too fast," Carroll said Wednesday. "We're looking for the long haul in his recovery. We want to make sure we manage our way through that. We're being very careful. He didn't do a whole lot last week. He did very little. It seems like it's best to keep him in that mode a little longer."

Jermaine Kearse will step into Rice's role in the starting lineup against the Bucs. Harvin should eventually supplant Kearse, though the waiting game continues.

Here are some other injury updates around the league:

  1. Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller was a limited participant in practice for a second consecutive day. Coach Doug Marronepoints toward Spiller returning to the lineup following a one-week absence: "I feel good about C.J. Spiller playing."
  1. Houston Texans running back Arian Foster returned to practice and took all scheduled reps Thursday. Coach Gary Kubiak said he "feels good" about where's Foster at. Ben Tate also returned to practice, but in a limited fashion.
  1. Miami Dolphins right tackle Jonathan Martin was officially downgraded to out for Thursday night's matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. Martin left the team this week after suffering what was described as an emotional breakdown in the team's cafeteria.
