Injury roundup: Montee Ball back at Broncos practice

Montee Ball returned to Denver Broncos practice for the first time since undergoing an appendectomy earlier this month.

According to multiple reports out of Broncos camp, the running back was participating in non-contact practice Tuesday.

Ball, however, did not work out during team drills in the joint portion of practice with the Houston Texans, per The Denver Post's Mike Klis.

Ball is set to be the Broncos' primary ball carrier after displaying good upside his rookie year. Slotted to replace Knowshon Moreno, Ball came in at No. 7 in Around The League's "Making The Leap" countdown this offseason.

We don't expect Ball to participate in the rest of the preseason, but getting him back to practice and doing light drills today was a first step in the process that should see him in the starting backfield Week 1.

  1. Jets fourth-round wide receiver Shaq Evans is out for the season, coach Rex Ryan said Tuesday per the New York Daily News. Evans suffered what Ryan called a "serious" shoulder injury early in camp and tweeted that he is undergoing surgery.
  1. Bills rookie wideout Sammy Watkins was back on the practice field in full pads Tuesday after suffering a rib contusion in Saturday's 19-16 preseason loss to the Steelers. Watkins was limited and didn't participate in team drills, according to the team's website.
  1. Giants rookie receiver Odell Beckham sat out practice Tuesday because he was sore after he appeared to tweak his hamstring Monday. He has been ruled out for Friday's game, per The Star-Ledger. This is not good:
  1. Jets rookie receiver Jalen Saunders was released Sunday from the hospital following his one-car accident last Friday morning. He was on the sidelines Monday, but is out indefinitely.
  1. Raiders corner D.J. Hayden appears headed toward starting the season on the physically unable to perform list, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported.
  1. Eagles rookie receiver Josh Huff is dealing with an AC joint sprain in his shoulder, but won't need surgery, according to Chip Kelly.

The latest "Around the League Podcast" recaps all of the action from the second week of the preseason.
