Injuries: Jonathan Stewart ruled out for Panthers

Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart exited Sunday's blowout win over the Falcons early with a sprained foot, and according to reports out of Charlotte on Wednesday, he was not on the field during the portion of practice open to the media.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera later said Stewart won't play Sunday against the Giants.

This isn't a surprise given that Stewart was seen in a walking boot Monday, and the Panthers want him to rest this week in hopes that he can be near 100 percent for the playoffs. Stewart has not been talked about as much amid the Panthers' stunning undefeated season but he should be.

If Stewart plays again during the regular season he is an absolute lock to top 1,000 yards for the first time since 2009. He's averaging more than four yards per carry.

In the meantime, look for a heavier dose of Fozzy Whittaker. We could even see rookie Cameron Artis-Payne dressing for Carolina on Sunday. The Panthers got good news regarding cornerback Charles Tillman, who has a partially-torn ACL. He was a full participant in practice.

  1. Colts quarterback Andrew Luckreturned to practice, participating in limited individual drills. He won't play Sunday against the Texans. Luck suffered a lacerated kidney Nov. 8. Wideout Allen Hurns (thigh) also didn't practice. Linebacker internal-link-placeholder-1 was a full participant.

  1. Texans quarterback Brian Hoyer will not play Sunday against the Colts due to still being in the concussion protocol, coach Bill O'Brien said. T.J. Yates is the starting quarterback.
