Houston Texans running back Arian Foster is on pace for nearly 400 carries this season. The team is in position for a No. 1 seed in the AFC and hopes to be playing well into January.
You would think the Texans would ease up on Foster heading into a short week with a Thanksgiving game against the Detroit Lions on tap. Foster has 65 touches in the past two weeks. But Texans coach Gary Kubiak doesn't sound concerned.
"You're right; he's had a lot of carries," Kubiak said Tuesday, via the Houston Chronicle. "He's our back, so he's going to carry it. He's having a great year, and he's holding up very well.
"He seems to get better as we go. We'll keep going, and hopefully, he stays good and healthy."
Running backs that go over 375 carries often struggle with injuries the following season. But Kubiak is more worried about this year. Foster's backup Ben Tate is hurt.
"These Thanksgiving games, you grew up watching them," Foster said this week. "You watched Barry Sanders. You watched Brett Favre. This is what really got you into the game."
Foster has rushed for at least 100 yards in his last five road games and has averaged more than 100 rushing yards in nine nationally televised games. We'd bet on another big game -- and big workload -- against the Lions.
