EJ Manuel a healthy scratch for Bills vs. Jets

EJ Manuel has gone from fill-in starter to healthy scratch in a span of two weeks.

Manuel is listed among the Buffalo Bills' inactives for Thursday night's "color rush" matchup with the New York Jets, leaving veteran Josh Johnson as starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor's backup.

Around The NFL's Conor Orr, live on the scene in East Rutherford, New Jersey, noticed Manuel warming up on the field a couple of hours before kickoff.

ESPN's Mike Rodak confirmed that the depth-chart move is a coaches' decision, unrelated to injury.

It's a noteworthy change in philosophy for the Bills' brass.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported in mid-October that Manuel had an opportunity to challenge Taylor for the starting job if the former first-round pick fared well versus the Bengals and Jaguars in Weeks 6 and 7.

Manuel faceplanted instead, perhaps leaving his biggest supporters on the losing side of interoffice debates.

If that support has faded, Manuel will be looking for a new team in 2016.
