Ed Reed: Wade Phillips 'probably' reason for release

Take one of the most outspoken, unpredictable NFL players of the last decade. Put him on the freewheeling New York Jets. It was only a matter of time until safety Ed Reed said something that will create headlines.

Cue Reed on Houston Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips:

"In hindsight, he's probably the reason I'm not there," Reed said of Phillips, via Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.

Reed, who was released by the Texans last week, will return to Baltimore for the second time in 2013 on Sunday. But he still was talking about the "interesting stuff" that went on in Houston. Reed said he didn't have a problem with the players or "most of the coaches." He made it clear that Phillips was the exception.

"That defense was not a good fit for a lot of people that are still there, not just me," Reed said. "The truth is the truth. They know that I know."

Reed was asked if he spoke to Phillips after his release from the team.

"He came in and basically made sure I was leaving," Reed said.

Unlike Phillips, we are going to miss Ed Reed when he's gone.
