Draft Buzz: Eagles high on DL Fletcher Cox

The NFL schedule release is Tuesday's heavy hitter, but a steady stream of draft news continues to flow in. In an effort to help, we'll be rounding up the nuggets that slip through the cracks for a little running segment we call "Draft Buzz."

1.Over the weekend, reports suggested the Eagleswere in play to trade up as high as No. 4 for Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill. The Eagles denied it (they deny everything), but they're not alone. Draft Insider's Tony Pauline reported Tuesday the Eagles might maneuver up, but for the services of defensive lineman Fletcher Cox. This feels like an Andy Reid pick, and the 6-foot-4, 298-pound Mississippi State behemoth is a strong fit for Philly's wide nine scheme.

On the quarterback front: Rosenthal pointed out Monday that Philly might want something more than Mike Kafka sitting behind Michael Vick. Their interest in a young arm to groom appears legitimate, and if Tannehill at No. 4 is too rich for their blood, there's a decent class to pick from.

2.Pauline also reported the Bears are leaning toward a defensive lineman with the 19th pick. Some believed Chicago would pursue a slot receiver to pair alongside Brandon Marshall here, but that's more likely to happen in the second or third round. Lovie Smith and Co. won't pass up Michael Brockers, according to Pauline, but the LSU defensive tackle might be long gone by then. Another player on the radar: Illinois' Whitney Mercilus.

3. While we're aboard the Bears' train: Chicago plans to host former South Carolina wideout Alshon Jeffery this week, a league source told ESPN Chicago. Jeffery has drawn interest from the Vikings, as well, per ESPN.

Check back in a few. We'll update this throughout the day.
