Chip Kelly: I'm totally committed to the Eagles

Chip Kelly has no interest in returning to college.

The Philadelphia Eagles coach denied rumors that the University of Southern California spoke with him about its coaching gig and said he's focused solely on his current job.

"No, I've never spoken to anybody from USC," Kelly said. "I've never emailed anybody for USC. I haven't gotten a phone call from anybody from USC, never had any contact with anybody from Southern California.

" ... I've never been looking at college jobs, but again, I can't control what's written," he said. "I was never looking at the Florida job last year. I said the same thing when they hired Jim McElwain -- they did a great job, Jim's done a great job there."

Chip added: "I'm totally committed (to the Eagles). That hasn't changed."

USC announced Monday it hired interim coach Clay Helton as its permanent coach, ending weekly rumors about Kelly heading to Southern California. Chip denied that he spoke with anyone from USC, saying he wasn't in Philadelphia on Friday -- when a reported meeting took place.

"I can't control what's written" he said. "There's no rules. People can write or tweet -- I don't know the rules. They can say whatever they want, but I've never discussed another college job since I came here."

With Philadelphia's season spiraling after blowout losses to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Detroit Lions, questions about Kelly's job security won't cease.

After two 10-win seasons to start his NFL coaching career, Kelly has hit his first pro speed bump. Part of the criticism is the coach's larger role in personnel decisions this offseason, which haven't worked out well.

Kelly might not be looking to return to the college ranks, but don't rule out a change of scenery within the NFL. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that the Tennessee Titanscould have interest in reuniting Kelly with quarterback Marcus Mariota, if the Eagles decide to move on.
