Jets trade DT Derrick Nnadi to Chiefs in conditional draft pick swap

Defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi won't experience a regular season outside of Kansas City just yet.

The Chiefs are acquiring Nnadi and a conditional 2027 seventh-round draft pick from the Jets in exchange for a conditional 2027 sixth-round selection, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported Sunday. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler first reported the news.

The trade returns Nnadi to the Chiefs, who selected him in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Nnadi started 87 of 115 games played for Kansas City and won three Super Bowls with the club. More of a run-stuffer than a pass-rush threat, the 29-year-old has five career sacks with 223 tackles and seven tackles for loss.

Though he started all 17 games in each of the Chiefs' past two Super Bowl-winning campaigns, he dropped in the rotation last season, cracking the starting lineup just once.

He joined New York in free agency, but Gang Green has recently reshuffled the deck on the interior, trading for both Harrison Phillips and Jowon Briggs on Wednesday.

As he did last year, Nnadi will slot into a depth role for a pass-rushing group that already includes Chris Jones, Mike Pennel, second-round rookie Omarr Norman-Lott and Jerry Tillery.
