Cedric Benson to remain on Green Bay Packers' IR

Green Bay Packers running back Cedric Benson will have all the time he needs to cultivate his alter-ego, DJ World Peace, for the rest of the year. He won't be playing football again this season.

Brooks: Bears or Packers?

Chicago and Green Bay both look like Super Bowl contenders. Which one will take the NFC North? Bucky Brooks examines. **More ...**

The Packers announced Thursday that Benson will remain on injured reserve for the rest of the season. He was "designated to return" on IR, but his foot injury was not healing as hoped.

As Marc Sessler pointed out, Green Bay's running game has been lacking all season. The Packers will have to lean heavily on James Starks to stay healthy. Alex Green has looked like a role player who can't be asked to do too much.

Green Bay could survive without a great running game or great pass protection, but it's hard to win if both areas are struggling badly. Aaron Rodgers has more responsibility to carry this roster than ever before.
