Bill Belichick's playoff résumé gets better by the week

On a brisk fall day in the not-too-distant future, the New England Patriots will unveil their Bill Belichick statue outside Gillette Stadium.

If we were commissioned to create it (this would be a stunning decision by Patriots brass) we'd depict the coach with a subtle scowl etched across his face, clad in his standard cut-off hoodie (not the red one), his hair slightly disheveled for all eternity.

It would honor arguably the greatest coach in NFL history. Think that's too strong a statement? Perhaps it's time to take a look at the credentials BB has built up during the past 12 seasons.

As Ben Volin of The Palm Beach Post pointed out Saturday, a win over the Baltimore Ravens in Sunday's AFC Championship Game would do more than advance the Patriots to their sixth Super Bowl in the Belichick-Brady era. It would give Belichick 19 playoff wins, tying him for second-most all-time with Don Shula.

That would put Belichick just one victory behind Tom Landry for the top spot.

So keep that in mind. If the Patriots win twice in the next three weeks, Belichick will have four Super Bowl rings as head coach -- six in total -- and will be tied for the most postseason victories ever.

More than enough hardware for a compelling G.O.A.T. discussion.
