2026 NFL combine: Jeremiyah Love runs 4.36-second 40-yard dash

INDIANAPOLIS -- Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love might not have had a lot to gain by working out at the NFL Scouting Combine -- he was already NFL.com analyst Daniel Jeremiah’s No. 2 prospect in the draft -- but that didn't stop him from putting on a good show in front of a Fighting Irish-friendly crowd at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday.

Love ran a 4.36-second 40-yard dash, the second-best mark among this year's combine running backs. That time matches the one Pro Bowl Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs posted at the combine in 2023. NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein foreshadowed such a result, likening Love to Gibbs in his scouting report of the 6-foot, 212-pound back.

Love did not participate in the vertical or broad jump, but he impressed in field drills after his 40 run. He slipped while dodging a photographer on the sideline after running a route, but seemed to be fine afterward, capping off his week in Indy by doing a flip to close out the workout.

Love told NFL Network's Stacey Dales he was "a little bit disappointed" with his 40 time and wanted to post a mark in the 4.2s. He also said he doesn't plan to work out at Notre Dame's pro day prior to the draft but will attend to support his teammates.

"Didn't get there, but 4.3 is good," he said. "Excellent speed. So, I'm OK with it. I want it better but put in a lot of work and 4.3 is just fine with me."

He remains one of the most intriguing players in the draft given the wide range of landing spots projected for him in mock drafts. Love appears to be as uncertain as the rest of us about his ultimate destination.

"I don't know, maybe top 10, top five, hopefully," he said. "I heard a lot people saying the Chiefs or the Saints or the Giants. I mean, all I gotta say is, I'd be blessed to go anywhere."

The St. Louis, Missouri, native finished third in the 2025 Heisman Trophy voting, rushing for 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns on 199 carries as a junior. He also caught 27 passes for 280 yards and three scores.
