Von Miller of Denver Broncos faces suspension by NFL

The Denver Broncos' rough offseason continues.

NFL.com's Albert Breer reported Monday that Broncos linebacker Von Miller is facing a four-game suspension, per a source apprised of the situation. The case currently is under appeal, and it's unclear what policy Miller violated. George Atallah, a spokesman for the NFL Players Association, confirmed that Miller's case does not involve the Steroids and Related Substances Policy.

The league has yet to comment. The Broncos told NFL.com and NFL Network they're aware of the report but can't comment because of the confidentiality of the league's policies. ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the story.

The news comes just one week after the Broncossuspended two top personnel executives, Matt Russell and Tom Heckert, for DUI arrests. Miller's potential suspension would be even more damaging.

The Broncos' pass rush already looked thin this season following the departure of Elvis Dumervil to the Baltimore Ravens. Miller carries the Broncos' front seven. He was our choice as the best edge rusher in the NFL, and his potential absence would be a huge blow to the Broncos' defense. The team signed former San Diego Chargers pass rusher Shaun Phillips over the offseason to be a top reserve; now Phillips may start.

Since Miller's appeal still is pending, it's unclear if and when Miller would serve the suspension. The Broncos face the Ravens, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders and Philadelphia Eagles in the first four weeks of the season.

UPDATE:Miller responded to Monday's report of a four-game suspension, saying he "did nothing wrong" and that "this'll be resolved fairly." Miller added that he's disappointed the Broncos have to open camp on the heels of the report. Atallah said the NFLPA is working closely with Miller's appeal. Atallah added that he is disappointed confidentiality was breached on the matter.
