UTEP's Richard Spencer in trouble following altercation

UTEP projected starting SS Richard Spencer was arrested Wednesday following an altercation outside an El Paso bar in which he allegedly pushed a woman into a truck, injuring her.

Spencer (6-feet-2, 215 pounds) started the first four games last season before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He finished the season with 36 tackles, an interception, two fumble recoveries and a blocked punt. He received a medical redshirt and is a fifth-year senior.

He started four times in 2011 as a nickelback and was a reserve safety and linebacker in 2009 and '10.

Spencer is the only projected starter in UTEP's secondary who has started more than one game in a career. Two junior college transfers are expected to see a lot of time, as is a corner who was converted from wide receiver during spring drills.
