USC senior running back Silas Redd will not make the trip to Hawaii for the Trojans' season opener Thursday night, head coach Lane Kiffin said Tuesday.
Redd has been limited as he recovers from a knee injury suffered during spring practice that required surgery. Kiffin said Redd would stay in Los Angeles to continue undergoing treatment and rehab.
After transferring in from Penn State, Redd rushed for a team-high 905 yards and nine touchdowns last season and was named honorable mention All-Pac-12. In two seasons with the Nittany Lions, Redd rushed for 1,678 yards and nine touchdowns.
With Redd back on the mainland, four running backs -- redshirt sophomores Tre Madden and Buck Allen and true freshmen Justin Davis and Ty Isaac -- will all see carries, Kiffin said.
USC is dealing with a plethora of injuries heading into the 2013 season, most notably at right guard where both candidates to start -- Aundrey Walker and John Martinez -- are banged up. Nine of 22 starting positions are not settled on the depth chart, including quarterback and the entire secondary.
