The Dallas Cowboys restructured quarterback Tony Romo's contract Tuesday, creating $10 million in salary cap savings.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported the team converted $12.5 million of Romo's $13.5 million base salary into a signing bonus, lowering Romo's cap number from $21.8 million to $11.8 million. This move was part of the plan when the quarterback signed his six-year, $108 million contract last year.
The Cowboys now sit just over the salary cap, Rapoport reports.
Romo's restructuring comes one day after the team re-worked the contracts of linebacker Sean Lee and cornerback Orlando Scandrick to create nearly $4 million in salary cap relief.
