Titans' Young practices with scout team, still game-time decision

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Quarterback Vince Young took part in one period of snaps with the Tennessee Titans scout team Friday, but his status for Sunday's game against the Houston Texans is still murky.

Young, who injured his right quadriceps against Tampa Bay, had not practiced all week. He began Friday's work dropping back and throwing the ball, then ran the Titans scout team offense during a red zone period against the starting defense.

Young was not available to the media on Friday, but Titans coach Jeff Fisher said the quarterback felt better and would still be a game-time decision.

"He was limited. He participated in warm-ups, threw the ball and participated in limited practice," Fisher said. "That would imply that he's improving. He will still be a game-time decision, but it was encouraging to see him on the field today.

"I think in his mind he targeted Friday, and he's worked very hard to get comfortable to be able to do some things." Kerry Collins took all the first-team reps on Friday with the offense, and said he is ready to lead the Titans against the Texans if called upon.

"I'm ready to go. I feel like practice has gone well this week and I have a good feel for what we are going to do," said, Collins, who has not started a regular season game since Sept. 24, 2006.

The NFL schedule is now in Week 7, and we still have two undefeated teams and two teams without a win.

Last year, the Bears and Colts hit the 7-0 mark at this point but we had no teams after Week 7 with a goose egg in the win column (the Raiders were 0-6 before a Week 7 win over the Cardinals). Will the Dolphins and or Rams finally get a win this weekend? The Fish play the Patriots and the Rams travel to Seattle, so it looks tough for both teams. Full story ...

Fisher said if Young is healthy enough to play, he would prefer Young take the first snap from center. But he admitted there is a scenario where Young could serve as backup.

The Titans currently do not have a third-string quarterback on the active roster, though Ingle Martin is on the practice squad.

Elsewhere with the Titans, running back Chris Brown was out of practice with a left ankle injury for the third straight day, but he has not been ruled out of the game.

Fullback Ahmard Hall practiced on Friday after suffering a concussion against Tampa Bay.

Defensive end Antwan Odom, who has been battling a thigh injury, was also out of practice again Friday.
