Titans owner Adams 'pleased' to have Fisher, plans to keep coach

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Titans owner Bud Adams isn't letting coach Jeff Fisher go anywhere after he helped the team overcome an 0-6 start to the season with an 8-2 finish.

"Jeff has two more years on his contract, and the way things are going, we are going to be pleased to have him here for the next two years and more years than that down the road," Adams said. "I think he'll get us in the Super Bowl next year.

Adams told The Tennessean in Wednesday's edition that he believed the Titans had a chance to go to the Super Bowl this season after winning 13 games in 2008. The woeful start erased those hopes early.

The owner, who turned 87 on Sunday, didn't immediately return a call from The Associated Press seeking comment.

Adams promised after a 59-0 rout Oct. 18 in New England to look at the overall picture before making decisions on his coaches. The Titans responded by winning eight of their final 10 games, becoming the first team to finish .500 after an 0-6 start.

"I wasn't expecting the six losses," Adams told The Tennessean. "But things changed at the end. It was a great comeback. So I think we have the makings to be a very good team next year."

Fisher's contract runs through the 2011 season, and the coach said Monday that he didn't plan on going anywhere else. Adams hasn't met with Fisher since the season ended with a 17-13 victory at Seattle last Sunday.

Adams remains confident in Fisher, whose 15-year tenure is the longest for a current NFL coach.

Adams said Fisher knows what he's doing and loves Nashville. Fisher is 136-110 overall but hasn't won a playoff game since 2003.

"He has been a good coach for us all of these years," Adams said. "I don't see any changes coming up. We ended up with a good year when all was said and done, and I am pleased with what happened."

Adams also believes Vince Young is coming into his own after going 8-2 once he returned as the starting quarterback. Adams, who drafted Hall of Famer Earl Campbell when the Titans were the Houston Oilers, also said Chris Johnson has a chance to be one of the great running backs after rushing for 2,006 yards this season.

Adams has high expectations for himself and the team he founded 50 years ago.

"I just turned 87 and now I am looking forward to my 97th down the road here," he said. "I'd like to see us in some more Super Bowls along the way, too."
