Texas Tech QB Davis Webb seems likely to play against K-State

Texas Tech quarterback Davis Webb, who suffered an injury to his left (non-throwing) shoulder in the Red Raiders' loss to Oklahoma State last Thursday, practiced on Tuesday and seems likely to play Saturday at Kansas State.

Red Raiders coach Kliff Kingsbury had said Monday that Webb was "basically day-to-day" because of the injury. The Lubbock (Texas) Avalanche-Journal reported that Webb was in full pads and did practice Tuesday.

The newspaper reported that Kingsbury also said Monday that how Webb felt in practice, and how well he could protect himself, would determine his availability for the K-State game. Webb (6-foot-5, 209 pounds), a sophomore, is listed as the starter on Texas Tech's weekly depth chart.

Given the state of Tech's defense, which is allowing 455.0 yards per game, including a Big 12-worst 261.3 on the ground, the Red Raiders will need every offensive weapon they have against the Wildcats. K-State is a run-heavy team and has scored 16 rushing touchdowns.

Webb is averaging 339.0 passing yards per game and has thrown a league-high 14 touchdown passes. But he also has tossed two interceptions in three of the Red Raiders' four games.

If Webb can't play, true freshman Patrick Mahomes II (6-3, 215) -- whose dad pitched for 11 seasons in the majors -- would get the start.
