Terrell Suggs off crutches, set to resume 'beasting'

Terrell Suggs has vowed to play for the Baltimore Ravens this season. The Pro Bowl linebacker took a small but positive step in that direction on Tuesday.

“No more crutches! Beasting...," the reigning Defensive Player of the Year wrote on his Facebook page.

Suggs suffered a partial tear of his Achilles' tendon in April under circumstances that still remain unclear. His Facebook message might be a sign his scheduled Monday doctor visit went well. The Baltimore Sun reported that doctors would likely clear Suggs to begin rehab activities at the team facility if his scar had sufficiently healed.

Suggs, 29, is coming off a monster season in which he finished with a career-high 14 sacks, seven forced fumbles, two interceptions and 70 tackles. He has emerged as the backbone of a defense that includes veterans Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.

The linebacker has targeted a late-November return to action, though it remains to be seen if that's an overly optimistic timetable.
