Terrell Suggs: Baltimore beat 49ers the 'Ravens' way'

NEW ORLEANS -- In the aftermath of the Baltimore Ravens's 34-31 victory in Super Bowl XLVII, linebacker Terrell Suggs summed up his team's down-to-the-wire victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

"There's an easy way to do things and a hard way to do things, and then there's just a Ravens' way to do things," Suggs told me. "We just knew, as long as they never had the lead, we was going to win it. That last (drive), all we had to do was stop 'em one time, and we got the one stop."

The Ravens' goal-line stand at the end of the game will be talked about for years to come in both Baltimore and the Bay Area. With San Francisco trailing 34-29 in the game's final two minutes, the 49ers dialed up three consecutive incomplete passes from the Baltimore 5-yard line. The Ravens stopped the bleeding when it mattered most.

Suggs acknowledged it wasn't a textbook victory -- the Ravens were torched by 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in the second half -- but the Ravens, all along, have been a team of grit, not glamor.

"The kid is special -- Kaepernick -- and I hate quarterbacks, but I'm a fan of him," Suggs said. "That kid is special, that team is special, but (the) Ravens are the world champions."
