First-year Temple coach Matt Rhule isn't necessarily on the Teddy Bridgewater bandwagon. But he sure does like Johnny Manziel.
Bridgewater threw for 348 yards and two TDs -- completing 71.4 percent (25 of 35) in the process -- in leading Louisville to a 30-7 win over Temple on Oct. 5. But while appearing on Philadelphia's WIP-FM morning show, Rhule said he would take current Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles over Bridgewater, a junior who generally is considered the most pro-ready among the draft-eligible quarterbacks.
"This is no disrespect to Teddy, but I'll say Nick Foles," said Rhule, who spent the 2012 season in the NFL as the New York Giants' assistant offensive line coach. "I think you have to have accuracy and decision-making, and he [Foles] has those two things."
Rhule also was asked about Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel -- not in relation to Foles, though -- on the radio show.
"I've watched him on tape," Rhule said. " ... He makes most of his plays running around, which makes you a little nervous of how it translates, but I'll tell you what, he's something. He single-handedly takes over games in the way that no one else has. I don't know where he'll play or what he'll do, but he'll do something special in the NFL."
Foles has 16 touchdowns and no interceptions this season, his second in the NFL. Foles attended Austin (Texas) Westlake, where he broke numerous school records held by Drew Brees. He signed with Michigan State out of high school, but after redshirting as a freshman, he transferred to Arizona, where he was a three-year starter (2009-11) for coach Mike Stoops.
