Steelers rule out Troy Polamalu, Marcus Gilbert

We have good news and we have bad news for fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers. First, the bad news.

Mike Tomlin told reporters Tuesday that safety Troy Polamalu will miss Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins with the nagging calf injury that's kept him sidelined for two straight two weeks, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Polamalu has battled the injury since last season and won't rush back into the lineup after tweaking the calf in Pittsburgh's Week 5 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Offensive right tackle Marcus Gilbert will miss his second straight game after damaging tendons in his ankle against the Tennessee Titans in Week 6.

It's not all doom and gloom for the Steelers. Tomlin said center Maurkice Pouncey is expected to practice Wednesday and suit up against Washington, which immediately solidifies Pittsburgh's battered line. Pouncey injured his knee against the Titans and missed Sunday night's win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
