Perhaps banking on the theory that rampant team dysfunction is nothing a few rounds of miniature golf can't fix, the Jets are in the process of drafting a list of possible team-bonding activities for the upcoming season.
Guard Matt Slauson recently learned about the plans while talking to members of the Jets' developmental department. Slauson hasn't spoken with any teammates about the hypothetical fun times, but he's for it.
"I have been talking to some guys about if we are going to do some team-building stuff, and there are guys brainstorming right now," Slauson told The Associated Press after attending a news conference to announce that WrestleMania would be held at MetLife Stadium in 2013. "But there is nothing official now."
Slauson said the Jets already have turned the page on a bitterly disappointing season that ended with the team's two biggest rivals playing in the Super Bowl.
"Absolutely we are all focusing on next year now," said Slauson, who revealed Thursday he played last season with a torn labrum, rotator cuff and bicep in his left shoulder. "We're not worried about all of that drama that happened last year. We are focusing on next year and getting better and doing what we can to get in the Super Bowl."
There's nothing wrong with the Jets' bonding plan. That said, last season's discord wasn't the product of Mark Sanchez and Santonio Holmes being denied the opportunity to play Skee-ball at Dave & Buster's. The Jets have a leadership void, and until someone fills it, the franchise will remain in danger of self-combustion.
