Shaun Phillips found his way off the free-agent market.
The veteran linebacker signed a one-year contract with the Denver Broncos, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Saturday. The team later confirmed Phillips' addition.

The Broncos hope Phillips will fill the pass-rushing void left by Elvis Dumervil's unexpected departure last month. Free agents John Abraham and Dwight Freeney have visited the Broncos' headquarters in recent weeks.
Phillips showed last season that he still had something left, finishing with 9.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in 16 games, all starts. He spent the first nine seasons of his NFL career with the AFC West rival San Diego Chargers, finishing with 69.5 sacks in that time.
Phillips, who turns 32 in May, serves as a decent stopgap for the franchise. It remains to be seen if this move closes the door on Freeney landing with the Broncos.
