Ryan confident Jets will claim AFC's No. 6 playoff seed

Rex Ryan is saying there's more than a chance.

His New York Jets face slim playoff odds entering Sunday's regular-season finale at Miami, but it's no surprise Ryan is confident his team will get it done.

"I still believe we'll get in the playoffs," Ryan told reporters Thursday. "Ten percent or whatever. I truly believe we'll get in the playoffs."

The "10 percent" estimation might be an exaggeration in the AFC playoff picture. But the Jets need a win over the Dolphins and losses by both the Cincinnati Bengals and Tennessee Titans. Then, either the Oakland Raiders or Denver Broncos also would need to lose for the Jets to claim the AFC's No. 6 seed.

Ryan said he huddled his team together Thursday to remind them of that fact.

"Sometimes when I feel I want to say something ... I just wanted to remind them of the opportunity that's in front of us," Ryan said. "We're still alive and kicking."

Alive, yes. But barely kicking after two consecutive December losses.

Ryan went as far as to call the Jets the "underdog" Sunday. In order to have any chance at the playoffs, they will have to pull off an "upset."
