Dunta Robinson displays no overt desire to become an NFL general manager any time soon, but the Falcons cornerback didn't hold back in his assessment of Jacksonville's receiving corps following Atlanta's 41-14 rout of the Jaguars.
"Those guys are (expletive) jokes," Robinson told The Florida Times-Union on Thursday night. "Those guys couldn’t get a (expletive) receiver if it hit them in the head."
Jaguars rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert was under duress from start to finish against Atlanta, sacked five times and throwing for just 141 yards while looking lost for long stretches of the game. His leading receiver, Taylor Price, caught two passes for 39 yards. By comparison, Atlanta's Roddy White and Julio Jones combined to haul in 15 receptions for 220 yards and three touchdowns from Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.
Jacksonville's leading receiver this season is tight end Marcedes Lewis, with just 415 yards. The team ranks dead last in passing, neutralizing the impact of Maurice Jones-Drew's league-leading 1,334 yards on the ground.
"(The Jaguars) haven’t had anyone decent since Jimmy Smith," said Robinson.
He's correct in that nobody has come close. Smith defined the Jaguars' attack for years, lighting up the league with nine 1,000-yard seasons from 1995 to 2005. Jacksonville hasn't fielded a 1,000-yard man since. Until this is corrected, it could be some time before we're treated again to three prime-time Jaguars games in one season.
