Rob Ryan to interview for job on St. Louis Rams' staff

Rob Ryan is hot on the trail of another NFL defensive coordinator gig.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Friday that Ryan is traveling to St. Louis to interview with the Rams. The meeting will take place Saturday.

The Rams are looking to formally replace Gregg Williams, who joined the team last January but never coached a down after being suspended indefinitely for his role in the New Orleans Saints' bounty program.

The Rams used a coordinator-by-committee approach to get through the 2012 season, finishing 14th in total defense. Ryan coached the Cowboys' defense for the past two seasons. The unit -- hit hard by injuries -- finished 19th this past season after ranking 12th in 2011.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones explained that struggles by a healthier version of the unit early in the season led to the team's decision to move on from Ryan.

Ryan said he would be out of work for "like five minutes" after Dallas dismissed him on Jan. 9. It hasn't quite worked out that way, but he gets a shot to sell himself this weekend.
