RG3 will not start for Washington Redskins on Sunday

Robert Griffin III will not start for the Washington Redskins on Sunday.

Fox Sports insider and NFL Network contributor Jay Glazer reported late Saturday that Kirk Cousins will be behind center for the Redskins' Week 15 matchup against the Cleveland Browns. The team later confirmed the decision in a statement.

Griffin tweeted about the decision shortly after it became public:

NFL.com's Albert Breer reported earlier Saturday that a decision on Griffin's availability would be made by a Redskins team doctor. If Griffin risked further injuring the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee, he would not play. The decision shows the team is unwilling to risk a setback with its biggest star.

The Redskins move forward with Cousins, who will make his first NFL start. He helped lead the Redskins past the Baltimore Ravens last Sunday after replacing Griffin late in the fourth quarter.

Cousins took all first-team reps this week while Griffin was limited to individual drills.

UPDATE: Breer reports per a team source that RG3 won't be in uniform vs. the Browns.
