When we ranked Robert Griffin III as the ninth-best NFL quarterback Friday, it was based on the assumption he'll make a full recovery from surgery to repair the torn anterior cruciate and lateral collateral ligaments in his right knee.
The Washington Redskins signal-caller set a goal to play in the team's 2013 season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, and RG3's father -- RG2 -- says his son is making steady progress. Griffin, his dad told USA Today, has been throwing the ball since late April.
"Robert is doing extremely well as far as the time table," Griffin II told the newspaper on Friday. "He's been doing a lot over time, he never stops. He was throwing some prior to the draft. Everything seems to be on cue. Everybody in the organization is targeting that season opener."
RG3 confirmed his progress Friday, tweeting about a workout that included passing drills and "a couple roll-out throws."
The real test for Griffin comes later this summer with the launch of training camp, but the reports -- so far -- maintain hope for a Week 1 comeback.
