Report: Austin Seferian-Jenkins to miss pro day after surgery

Washington tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins won't participate in Washington's April 2 pro day workout after undergoing surgery to repair a stress fracture in his foot, according to CBSSports.com.

Doctors at the NFL Scouting Combine discovered Seferian-Jenkins' injury in Indianapolis last week, causing the former Huskies star to join a number of top tight ends who were unable to perform at their best at the event. Seferian-Jenkins did only the bench press at the combine, posting 20 reps, and went through interviews before pulling out of combine. He deferred a question on NFL Network about whether he would be ready for pro day to his agent, perhaps because he knew surgery was a possibility.

With Seferian-Jenkins missing out on both the combine and Washington's pro day, NFL clubs interested in selecting a tight end early in the draft might as well book some extra travel to Seattle. Seferian-Jenkins, if healthy enough, is likely to hold a private pro day before the draft to allow teams to measure his speed and agility. That strategy could give him another three to four weeks of recovery after Washington's team pro day.

Even at such a late date, as one of the top prospects at his position in the draft, there is little doubt he would attract a big contingent of NFL scouts. "ASJ" has been training at the EXOS performance facility in Phoenix.
