Redskins GM: I felt fine with Junior Galette as a person

Washington Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan is resting easy after signing Saints pass rusher Junior Galette.

"From the get-go I was a little bit nervous about, 'OK, geez, there's some things out there,'" McCloughan told Redskins.com, via CSN Washington. "But after we looked into everything -- even with the league office, talking to them and doing all that -- but like I said a couple of things are still pending but we felt fine with him as a person."

In January, Galette was arrested on domestic violence and simple battery charges, but the charges were eventually dropped. On the injury front, he suffered a torn pectoral muscle during the offseason. Doctors were unsure whether or not Galette required surgery.

His ouster from the Saints last month was not a clean one either, leaving some to wonder if he would play in 2015.

Though it gave him pause, McCloughan is taking a risk that we've seen succeed in the NFL, but one that has also caused major waves throughout an organization.

Back in May, for example, the Bears parted ways with Ray McDonald after taking a risk on the troubled defensive tackle. McDonald had convinced new general manager Ryan Pace and the team's ownership that he was worthy of a second chance.

The fact that both deals were for a minimum salary reflect the fear that a signing like this can instill. But as McCloughan tries to build Washington back from the ground up, he'll need to find talented players wherever he can get them.
