The Baltimore Ravens took a beating on the field during Sunday night's 34-14 loss to the San Diego Chargers, but the bad breaks continued into the following week with some bad news regarding their leading receiver's health.
The Ravens announced that Anquan Boldin would have surgery Thursday to repair a torn meniscus in his knee and is expected to miss the final two weeks of the regular season. Coach John Harbaugh later said, via the team's official Twitter feed that Boldin should be ready to play by the start of the playoffs.
The Ravens wouldn't reveal which knee Boldin injured, but he hasn't practiced since Tuesday. Dr. James Andrews was scheduled to perform the procedure in Birmingham, Ala.
"He's got a slight tear in his meniscus. It flapped up on him; I think it was Tuesday night after the walkthrough," Harbaugh said of Boldin, according to The Associated Press. "He's going to have to get it repaired. It's two weeks and he'll be back for the playoffs, whatever round we happen to play in. It will be a little bit tighter if we have to play in the first round."
The Ravens (10-4) face the Cleveland Browns this Saturday as they continue to fight the Pittsburgh Steelers (10-4) for the AFC North title and a first-round bye in the playoffs.
The two games Boldin likely will miss represent the first time he has missed action since joining the Ravens at the start of the 2010 season. Boldin has 57 receptions for 887 yards with three touchdowns this season.
Harbaugh also said Thursday that former Pro Bowl kicker Shayne Graham will play in place of Billy Cundiff (left calf) against the Browns.
