Ozzie Newsome isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
The 58-year-old Hall of Famer has been in charge of the personnel for a team that has made the playoffs 10 out of the last 14 seasons. In that same window, Baltimore has won the division four times, the conference twice and the Super Bowl twice.
And he sounds like a man just getting started.
"No, only because every time I walk in this office, it's a good day," Newsome said Tuesday, via The Baltimore Sun. "I enjoy coming to work every day, and the first time I walk in here and it doesn't feel good, then that's when I'll call the boss and let him know.
"I walked in today and I felt good -- even though I knew I had to spend time with (media). I don't like that a lot."
The Ravens are in an incredibly fortuitous position considering that, even if Newsome wanted to step down, they have someone like Eric DeCosta waiting patiently for the opportunity to step up.
For years, DeCosta, the team's assistant general manager, has declined numerous GM offers, including two separate chances to interview with the New York Jets.
Building a structure like this is precisely why Newsome was viewed as the league's top general manager in a recent poll done by the Sporting News. Fostering an environment with a clear-cut successor, winning two Super Bowls without the aid of a top-three quarterback and consistently regenerating a roster that has only had one two-year stretch out of the playoffs in Newsome's tenure.
Ravens fans should be happy to learn that he's sticking around a little longer.
