Ranking the FBS conferences: SEC narrowly better than Pac-12

With six weeks of the 2014 college football season in the books, the CFB 24/7 team ranked the teams within each of the Power Five conferences (see navigation tabs at top of story) and each of the FBS conferences overall:

1. SEC
The SEC West by itself would be No. 1. The SEC East drags down the league as a whole, but it's still the best overall. Barely.

2. Pac-12
The depth is tremendous. One problem: All that depth easily could knock the league out of a potential playoff spot.

3. Big 12
There's a big gap between league No. 2 and league No. 3.

4. ACC
There's FSU at the top; then a few feet behind, there's Clemson. Then a mile back is ... well, somebody.

5. Big Ten
This is the only Power Five league that doesn't have an unbeaten team. You could say "parity." We say "mediocrity."

6. Mountain West
There doesn't appear to be a clear-cut "best" team, which should make for an exciting final two months.

7. American Athletic
East Carolina is the league's best team. The second-best? That's a question still to be answered.

8. Conference USA
There's Marshall, then there are 12 other teams that wear helmets, pads and cleats almost every week.

9. Sun Belt
Preseason favorite Louisiana-Lafayette isn't a lock to be bowl-eligible. So, yes, this season has been wild in the Sun Belt.

10. Mid-American
Of the 13 teams, 12 have at least two losses and nine have at least three.
