The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent safety Gibril Wilson. Wilson spent the past four seasons with the New York Giants. He was an integral part of a New York defense that helped the Giants secure a victory in Super Bowl XLII over the New England Patriots.
Wilson, 26, has been a starter for New York since his rookie season. Over his pro career, Wilson has averaged more total tackles per game (6.9) than any other NFL safety.
He has played in 52 league games with 51 starts since entering the NFL as a fifth round draft choice by the Giants in 2004 out of the University of Tennessee.
The San Jose native starred at Oak Grove High School in his hometown. Wilson began his college career at City College of San Francisco where he was a junior college All-American before transferring to Tennessee.
In 2007, Wilson tied for the Giants lead in interceptions with a career-high four to boost his career total to 11 and placed second in tackles with 92 despite missing three league games due to injury.
As a rookie in 2004, Wilson tied for the team lead with three interceptions, recorded three sacks and was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for October.
