Raiders' QB situation unclear -- even punter Lechler in mix

Oakland Raiders coach Tom Cable might wait until Sunday to name a starting quarterback for that day's game against the Denver Broncos.

With starter Bruce Gradkowski limited because of a sore throwing shoulder, backups Jason Campbell and Kyle Boller split reps in practice Wednesday, and punter Shane Lechler even took a handful of snaps with Oakland's starting offense.

Cable said deciding on a starter "may have to be a game-time decision" Sunday in Denver, the *Oakland Tribune* reported.

"Bruce did some stuff, which was good, and some real easy stuff, in terms of throwing, (but he didn't) cut it loose or throw the ball down the field or anything like that. Moved around fine," Cable said. "Jason is a little bit sore. You saw Kyle practicing. So we'll just continue on that path."

Campbell, who began the season as Oakland's starter before being benched at halftime of a Week 2 game against the St. Louis Rams, has a sore left knee that was injured in last Sunday's 17-9 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

The veteran quarterback, whom the Raiders acquired from the Washington Redskins in an offseason trade, completed just 8 of 21 passes for 83 yards and a career-low 10.7 rating against the 49ers.

Lechler completed 87 of 101 passes -- 86.1 percent -- for 1,640 yards and 11 touchdowns to lead East Bernard (Texas) High School to the state quarterfinals his senior year.

"There's a set of plays he would run," Cable said. "A what-if thing."
