Raiders add veteran FB Neal, RB Russell to backfield

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders have bolstered their backfield by signing fullback Lorenzo Neal and running back Gary Russell.

Age: 38

Height: 5-11 Weight: 255

College: Fresno State

Experience: 16 seasons

Terms of the deals weren't disclosed, but the Raiders added the two players in time for the start of the mandatory minicamp Friday.

The Raiders weren't able to find a fullback in the draft, so they signed Neal, who is considered to be one of the best blocking backs in the NFL. The 16-year veteran spent last season with the Baltimore Ravens.

Russell spent two seasons in Pittsburgh, rushing for 98 yards and three touchdowns. He also scored the Steelers' first touchdown in their Super Bowl XLIII victory over the Arizona Cardinals.

Also, Raiders coach Tom Cable said wide receiver Javon Walker recently informed the team that he underwent knee surgery and won't be ready until training camp. Walker missed the second half of last season because of an ankle injury.
