Tennessee defensive tackle Tony Brown had sacked Chad Pennington on fourth-and-4 to end the Jets' previous possession. New York had moved to the Tennessee 45-yard line but could not get any closer.

The Titans can clinch a playoff berth with a win against the Colts next week. ... Jets coach Eric Mangini went against the old coaching axiom when he took points off the board in the second quarter. Mike Nugent nailed a 36-yard field goal, but Mangini opted to take a leverage penalty on the Titans and go for the touchdown. Keith Bulluck intercepted Chad Pennington's pass in the end zone to snuff out the drive.
