Washington failed to recover a fumble by Kansas City punt returner Bobby Wade with just under 2 minutes to play. The Chiefs took the clock down to 37 seconds before kicking a field goal to go up 12-6 and then immediately sacked Redskins QB Todd Collins in the end zone for a safety on the next play from scrimmage.

Game ball

Chiefs rookie kicker Ryan Succop made all four of his field goals, including a pair of tough 46-yarders. In a game that lacked offense, Succop's leg made the difference.

Key Stat

Field position was critical in this low-scoring affair and the Chiefs started their final four drives in Redskins territory. This gave Kansas City's offense the help it needed to take and secure the lead.

Redskins QB Jason Campbell was benched at halftime and did not return in the second half. Backup Todd Collins took his place. ...
