Quick Take: Chargers at Patriots

Last meeting
The Patriots jumped out to a 24-point first-half lead and cruised to a 38-14 win over the Chargers in Week 2. Tom Brady threw three touchdown passes, including two to receiver Randy Moss. The defense never let Philip Rivers get comfortable, forcing the Chargers QB into a pair of interceptions while holding running back LaDainian Tomlinson to only 43 rushing yards on 18 attempts.

Streaks
The Patriots have won consecutive games against the Chargers, including an upset win in a divisional playoff game last season. The Chargers did, however, snap the Patriots' 21-game home winning streak in 2005. The Patriots lead the all-time series 19-14-2 (including playoffs). The Chargers defeated the Patriots, 51-10, in the 1963 AFL Championship Game.

Last week

Volek replaced an injured Rivers and led the Chargers on a scoring drive that culminated in his 1-yard touchdown plunge late in the fourth quarter. ... Tom Brady was nearly perfect against the Jaguars as he led the Patriots to a 31-20 win over Jacksonville. Brady completed 26 of 28 passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns, two to tight end Ben Watson.

How they got here
The Chargers have won eight consecutive games and 12 of their last 14, including last week's win at Indianapolis. The Chargers' eight-game winning streak is second only to the Patriots' 17 consecutive victories.

Roster notes
The Chargers are concerned about their big three -- Tomlinson, Rivers and tight end Antonio Gates. Tomlinson indicated that his knee was sore and that he feels like he should be able to play on Sunday. Rivers listed as questionable with a sprained ligament in his right knee and will be monitored closely throughout the week. Gates (dislocated toe) didn't start against the Colts but was able to play. He is questionable to play this week. ... Cornerback Ellis Hobbs did not start for the Patriots on Saturday because of a groin injury but is expected to play a big role against the Chargers.
