Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte responds to Broncos HC Sean Payton's comment: 'They can rest in Cancun'

Kayshon Boutte isn’t holding back in his confidence ahead of the AFC Championship Game in Denver.

The Patriots wide receiver heard Broncos head coach Sean Payton’s comments this week. Payton was asked what his message was to fans who’ll be at Empower Field at Mile High on Sunday, and the coach implored them to start getting loud early in the play clock because of how quickly the Patriots can play with tempo offensively.

“They’re going to have plenty of rest after this one,” Payton said of the fans. “Two weeks.”

Payton’s point might have been about fans making noise Sunday, knowing they can rest their voices afterward. But it wasn’t hard for Boutte to read Payton’s comment -- the “two weeks” part -- as a sign the coach thinks the Broncos will beat the Patriots before advancing to Super Bowl LX at Santa Clara, Calif. on Feb. 8.

When asked about Payton's comment, Boutte offered alternate travel plans for the Broncos and their fans.

“They can rest in Cancun, too, at the end of the day,” Boutte said, via NBC10's Kevin Moore.

Boutte's bravado is nothing new. Last week, the wide receiver confidently said that the Texans were “not too complicated on defense” and that they weren’t the toughest unit he had prepared for.

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was also asked about Payton’s comments and whether they might provide additional motivation for his team. Vrabel’s response was short and sweet.

“I think we’re plenty motivated for the game,” he said.

We’ll find on Sunday which team’s itinerary will change -- and who’ll end up in Mexico.
