New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez confirmed a recent hip surgery on Sunday, according to *The Hartford Courant*.
Hernandez, who appeared on crutches Sunday morning at his brother D.J.'s football camp in Southington, Conn., was peppered with questions from kids asking, "What happened to your leg?"
Hernandez told his audience that he was on the mend from surgery to his injured hip, which forced him to miss New England's final two games of the regular season. He appeared in last month's AFC Divisional playoff loss to the New York Jets, catching one pass for four yards.
The 6-foot-1, 245-pound Hernandez finished his promising rookie campaign as the Patriots' third-leading receiver with 45 receptions for 563 yards and six touchdowns. New England drafted Hernandez in the fourth round of last April's draft.
Aaron and D.J. grew up in nearby Bristol, Conn. D.J., 24, was a quarterback and wideout at the University of Connecticut and now serves as football coach at Southington High School.
