Panthers' Shockey doubtful; Connor questionable

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina tight end Jeremy Shockey is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions due to soreness in his ribs. Linebacker Dan Connor is questionable with a sore shoulder.

Coach Ron Rivera says a decision on both players will be made closer to game time.

Connor is Carolina's starting middle linebacker but has not practiced all week. He will have X-rays Friday. Connor left last week's game against the Tennessee Titans with a stinger and was replaced by Jordan Senn.

Rivera says Senn will start Sunday if Connor can't play. The coach says if Connor doesn't play it leaves the linebacker situation "depleted at best" with three linebackers already on injured reserve.

Linebacker Jason Phillips remains out with a calf injury. Cornerback Brandon Hogan is listed as questionable.
