Green Bay Packers running back James Starks will play Thursday against the Detroit Lions despite knee and ankle injuries sustained in last weekend's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, NFL Network's Albert Breer reported.
Starks was listed as questionable on the team's Wednesday's injury report after he participated in a short walk-through session. Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Starks, the team's top rusher, would be a game-time decision.
Starks sprained his knee and injured his ankle in the final minutes of last Sunday's win.
He replaced Jahvid Best, who was previously ruled out for a fifth straight game because of a concussion.
Smith was out of the league three weeks ago, hoping to get another shot to play when his former employer gave him another chance.
Lions defensive end Lawrence Jackson was the only noteworthy player on the inactive list for either team.
Jackson, who has 4 1/2 sacks this season, was out for a second straight game with a thigh injury.
